Third Eye in Canterbury closes after 27 years

It is with shock and great sadness that Third Eye in Canterbury has unexpectedly announced its closure after 27 years of trading.  The shop, a staple of  Canterbury’s city centre, will shut its doors at the end of the month (31 January).

In a Facebook post (on 16 January) they announced the ceasing of trading and welcomed customers to come in to wish them well, say goodbye, and take a look at their closing down sale.  They also thanked everyone for their custom over the years and said, ‘We hope you agree we did well to keep the alternative scene alive in Canterbury for as long as we did,’ which, with the current trend of many local shops and businesses throughout England’s high streets closing, we certainly concur with this sentiment.  27 years is no mean feat, there are countless businesses that come and go long before they rack up that sort of trading time, so they should be nothing but proud.

Regardless, this is a damning loss for the high street and another sad story of local shops closing to add to the many that preceded it; local, independent shops are struggling and, we feel, something must be done.

We implore you to shop local wherever possible, without your custom these stores cannot be viable, so it’s so important to keep in mind your local tradespeople whenever you’re out in the high street.
