Take a walk in Mote Park for National Walking Month

As part of National Walking Month why not head over to the award-winning magnificent Mote Park and take a walk around one of the many trails.

Alan Frith, Mote Park Officer said:

“Walking has been described as the perfect exercise and National Walking Month encourages us all to add an extra 20 minutes of walking a day to our routines.  This is a perfect opportunity to get some fresh air and enjoy the stunning scenery of our 450-acre park.

Anyone interested in getting more active and meeting new friends should have a look at the ‘walking for health’ website. Just type in your postcode and it will show you different walks around the borough that take place each week. They are all run by volunteers and are aimed at people who are trying to be more active.

Two guided healthy walks take place each Tuesday starting at 10.30am from the café in Mote Park. One is a long walk of about one hour and the other is shorter and at a slower pace, taking around 45 minutes. Anyone is welcome as the walking is very accessible, suitable for wheel-chairs and buggies with plenty of benches to take a rest along the way. General and disabled parking, toilets and the café are all close by.”

The walk is also suitable for people living with dementia, as there are two talking posts along the route, where you press a button and a voice tells you about the walk and what you might see. A specially designed map and information about the park is also available at the café and Maidstone Museum. As it is also Dementia Action Week from 18 May a new newsletter launches: Building a dementia friendly Maidstone newsletter which includes details of lots of dementia friendly activities around the Maidstone borough.
