Swale’s new Visitor Economy Framework Action Plan, which outlines how Swale Borough Council will work with local businesses to attract more visitors to the borough, has been approved.

Councillors discussed the action plan at Wednesday night’s (28 Oct) cabinet meeting and voted to approve the plan after public consultation ended last month.

Cllr Monique Bonney, cabinet member for economy and property at the council, said:

“Our ultimate goal with the action plan is to attract more visitors to Swale to support our local businesses.

“Its ambitious, but we know the collective effort of our tourism, hospitality and leisure businesses will help the long-term security and growth of our visitor economy.

“Bringing this plan to life and building our visitor economy in new and dynamic ways is key to helping us recover from covid together as a borough.

“This is an important sector for us to build our economy after such a hard year.

“We have outstanding businesses, with strong leadership and vision here in Swale, and we want to draw on their enormous pool of talent to help shape and deliver our visitor economy.

“People are thinking differently about how they spend their leisure time, and we are lucky to have outstanding coastlines, countryside, marshland, the Kent Downs and historic buildings.

“Our attractive towns and villages and open green spaces provide a safe place and exciting experiences for all to enjoy.

“Now approved, we can get to work with local businesses to start the process of implementing the priorities outlined in the plan.

“Water activities, sustainable tourism and cycling infrastructure are just a few of the items in the plan, so we have some exciting ideas to get started with.”
