Suspected Ramsgate rogue trader arrested

Detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate arrested a suspected Ramsgate rogue trader following reports of fraud.

It is alleged that incomplete and unsatisfactory building and maintenance work has been carried by a Ramsgate rogue trader out at two properties in Ramsgate and one in Folkestone between February and March 2018. The victims are believed to have paid out considerable amounts of money for substandard work.

Fraud investigators arrested a 29-year-old man of no fixed address on Wednesday 25 April 2018 in Spencer Square at around 11am.

The man was arrested on suspicion of fraud by false representation and has been released on bail until Thursday 17 May 2018.

Detective Constable Mark Newman said: ‘Rogue traders often put pressure on their victims who then agree to work that isn’t really required. Furthermore the work carried out is usually of poor quality and costs a lot of money.’Sadly victims are usually elderly and vulnerable and can find themselves easily drawn in by doorstep callers or companies that make false promises.’Before agreeing to any work being carried out it is always a good idea to obtain quotes from several reputable companies.‘Anyone who believes they may have been a victim of fraud should make contact with Kent Police as soon as possible by calling 101.’
