Do you have a story to tell about the Channel Tunnel?

Kent residents are being asked to help with a countywide history project about the Channel Tunnel.

The Kent History and Library Centre in Maidstone already holds a fascinating collection demonstrating the various processes carried out when planning the tunnel itself and the Channel Tunnel Rail Link.

The records there include items ranging from archaeological reports to promotional material.

However, staff at the KHLC are keen add a “personal” touch illustrating what the Channel Tunnel scheme meant to residents at the time and how some of them were involved.

Project Archivist Olivia Weekes said: “We want to add the public’s stories to the collection to create a full and personal history of the project and what it means to them.

“We are looking for people who were involved with or affected by the construction, and who are willing to be interviewed by a member of our team. We will record the interviews and they will be preserved within the collection for the use of future generations.”
