Step back in time for vintage Christmas celebrations at Kent Life

Halloween Spooktacular

Step inside a time machine by experiencing the festive celebrations of the Second World War at Kent Life Heritage Farm Park’s Christmas on the Home Front.

The special event, held at the award-winning attraction near Maidstone on November 25 and 26, will allow visitors to absorb the sights, sounds and smells of the 1940s and gain an insight into an era which shall never be forgotten.

Drill displays by the Home Guard, shops from the era and a rehabilitation centre for injured RAF pilots will be among the activities taking place over the weekend.

Elsewhere, learn how to ‘make do and mend’ by restyling clothes from the 1940s, and find out about coping with rationing at a wartime cookery demonstration of genuine Ministry of Food recipes, including a sponge cake made with liquid paraffin.

There is also the chance to take a look around the Lenham Cottages, including one which replicates the typical wartime home – features include windows with sticky tape, a bathtub with a water ration line, and a mangle to do the washing. An Anderson Shelter in the garden also allows visitors to see where families would hide during bombing raids.

Tickets for Christmas on the Home Front, which runs from 10am to 4pm, cost £6.95 for adults, £5.95 for concessions, £5.50 for children aged three to 15, and £19.95 for a family (two adults and two children). Under-threes and members go free.
