Smoking is a fire risk

We can help on the journey to quitting and feeling safe and well in the home.

More people die in fires started through smoking than any other cause. Tobacco burns at very high temperatures – it’s designed to stay lit. This is why cigarettes can so quickly start a fire.

If you’re a smoker, here’s some top tips to support you with safety in your home.

  • Avoid smoking in bed.
  • Always use a proper ash tray.
  • When you’ve finished always fully stub out cigarettes.
  • Keep matches and lighters out of the reach of children.
  • If you have oxygen aid – always remember never use your oxygen near a naked flame, including all forms of smoking and e-cigarettes, gas and electric cookers.
