SMOKIN MAVERICKS

CommunityAd had the pleasure of a chat with a local band that have been branded “arguably one of the best modern country bands in the South East” by BBC Radio South East, Smokin Mavericks.

Smokin Mavericks is a great name, what’s its origin?

At the time we were just throwing out names and this was the one that stood out, and it stuck, it’s memorable and instantly rolls off the tongue.

Do you recall the band’s first gig? How have you developed in your six years together?

Yes, it was at a beer festival in Gillingham, perfect setting for a warm welcome on a lovely summer’s day. Over the past six years we have learnt a lot about how we sound, who we need to reach out to, and how to make the most of our live performances, to this day we’re still thinking of new and exciting ways to give the public the best music around that you’ll struggle to find anywhere else.

I’ve interviewed a few musical-minded people in Kent and they are convinced it’s a thriving scene, would you agree?

Absolutely, so many independent music venues around the county particularly in East Kent are willing to display some of the best local talent and we’re hugely honoured to be a part of such a select group.

If you could have anyone else join the band who would you recruit (dead or alive) and why?

Might sound self-indulgent but we wouldn’t really have anyone! We’re four confident and well-equipped musicians and we know how good we sound.

Desert Island Discs time, if you could pick three singles to take with you on a desert island?

Luke Combs – ’Beer Never Broke My Heart’

The Who – ’Baba O’Riley’

Queen – ’Bohemian Rhapsody ‘

What makes Herne Bay such a lovely community to be a part of? Some great venues and pubs for music?

Ashley (Lead Singer) and Carl (Lead Guitar) have lived here all their life, it’s the only place in the world they can truly call home, during the summer we experience an amazing vibe that you can’t find anywhere else – it’s special and unique. The local music is also great, not only do you have the Divers Arms, Hampton etc. but you also have well established entertainment venues such as Vibe that are really pushing to showcase the best and greatest in local talent. Herne Bay Rocks is also a perfect event which really shows the music world what Herne Bay has to offer.

Where can our readers catch you performing this year and any particular plans for 2020?

We are back at Herne Bay Car Show on Saturday 29th August!
This year we are laying the foundation to give the people of the South East and beyond one of the greatest live shows they will ever experience and we are constantly writing brand new material which we are due to record in the coming months!

SO WATCH THIS SPACE!
