Seven artists from three continents showing in Thanet

Sculptor Willow Winston has drawn together a group of fellow artists in the exciting Seven exhibition at her vast Bauhaus studio in Broadstairs, an 1890’s tram shed.

Willow’s grandmother, (whose brother was owner/editor of The Thanet Gazette during the 1920s) was born nearby in 1875.

The primary aims of  ‘Seven’ are: 

Provide a showcase for a diverse range of work from artists around the world, most of whom Willow has worked with during the past 30 years.

Engage, inspire and teach art practice to local children, young people & adults via free, active participation in several media, including printmaking and calligraphy, in a series of free workshops within the studio space throughout October.

Willow says: The “Seven” artists, who happen to be women, are united by a serious commitment to art and its importance to humanity. Work for this show revolves around the theme of discovery of writing and its influence on experience and thought.’

‘I am very excited about this coming together of artists from 3 Continents. It’s also great to be included as part of Margate ’19 and its association with The Turner Prize which has always celebrated Art in all its forms from around the world.’

‘Seven’ come from varied geographic and economic backgrounds. Aged from 30s to 70s, they have travelled on diverse creative paths that now cross in Thanet. They work with stone carving, sculpture, painting, enamelling, printmaking, calligraphy and photography.

Dates :  Preview : 1st October

Exhibition October 3rd – 31st Thursday-Sunday 1-6pm

Workshops : 2-4pm on 12th, 20th and 26th October.

’Seven’ has been selected to be part of ‘Margate ’19’ in association with The Turner Prize ’19 exhibition at Turner Contemporary, providing local and international artists with an opportunity to collaborate and participate in this important event.
