Second recovery summit to be hosted by deputy leader

Following the success of the first Lewes district recovery summit held in July, the Deputy Leader of Lewes District Council will host a follow-up event next week (14 October).

The summit in July discussed how to support a sustainable economic and social recovery across the district after the Covid-19 lockdown.

Councillor Zoe Nicholson will chair the video conference with the focus firmly on five key issues that were highlighted during the summer meeting.

Councillor Nicholson said: “I was delighted with the feedback we received after the first summit and greatly encouraged by the shared sense of optimism that was evident from the expert contributions we heard.

“Our discussions next week will look at how we work together to address inequalities, increase public engagement with public bodies, improve digital accessibility, utlise our assets most efficiently and connect the greening of our economy with creating employment opportunities.”

With some limitations on video conferencing, Councillor Nicholson is encouraging those interested in attending to complete a short online survey, in order to better capture the wealth of knowledge and insights on offer.

Councillor Nicholson added: “The online video meetings are a fantastic resource and a great way to overcome the logistical limitations created by the pandemic, but if people could complete the survey I think we will achieve even more on October 14.”

Please complete the survey at www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/857WJL/ – the findings will be shared during the conference.
