Have your say on new Public Space Protection Order (PSPO)

A 28 day period for comment will commence on Thursday 10 August on the proposed introduction of a new Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) for dog fouling and control.

Whilst the vast majority of dog owners are responsible people who keep their animals under control and look after them properly, there are areas of the district where dog control and fouling has become an issue.

The proposed PSPO will help the council simplify existing rules, replace old legislation (which expires later this year) and control irresponsible dog owners who don’t pick up dog faeces or control their dogs.

The PSPO intends to stop offences in public spaces, such as failing to remove dog poo, not having a poo bag, keeping a dog on a lead in a designated areas, and letting it enter land from which it is excluded.

The PSPO is another way the council is trying to change the behaviour of the minority of irresponsible dog owners in Thanet. Other wide-ranging initiatives to stop irresponsible dog owners, include 30 Tikspac stations providing free dog waste bags across the district, and the council’s dedicated FIDO machine which exclusively removes dog faeces from across Thanet.
