Have your say on Hayling Island’s future

local businesses

The Eastern Solent Coastal Partnership is working with consultants AECOM, on behalf of Havant Borough Council, to carry out an economic footprint study for Hayling Island.

As part of this, a short questionnaire has been developed to help understand the direct and indirect impacts of coastal flooding and erosion on Hayling Island and the wider borough’s economy.

The results of this survey will be used to identify the wider economic benefits of any potential future Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM) measures on the island.

The types of measures have not yet been determined and will be dependent on further studies, however, they can take the form of flood defences, erosion protection or flood warning plans. For typical examples of FCERM measures across the region please visit: www.escp.org.uk.

The majority of Hayling Island is low-lying with a history of serious flood incidents. There are a variety of different coastal defences around the island, of which a high proportion have a low residual life without further maintenance.

We are interested to hear from island residents, business owners and visitors.

Click here to complete the survey – open until Monday 15 April 2019.
