RSPCA cats dream of purr-fect homes…

Dedicated staff looking after charity’s cats conjure up creative way to find them the right homes

RSPCA staff searching for the purr-fect homes for their resident cats have dreamt up a unique and creative way to pair them up with the right owners.

Care assistants at the RSPCA’s Leybourne Animal Centre, in Kent, have been getting arty with the glass doors on the cat pods

Cattery manager Janine Pemberthy said: “Our staff will do whatever they can to find the purr-fect homes for their feline friends and sometimes we get our creative juices flowing and try out something new.

“We decided to find our inner Pi-cat-so and decorate the cat pods to show the type of homes the cats were dreaming of in the hope of persuading more people to stop at their pens and talk to them.

“We hope our art project will help us find new, loving homes for all our beautiful cats!”

Lil Kim and Hermione, pictured above, are looking for a special home together. The pair of two-year-olds were rescued by the RSPCA from a multi-cat household in April.

Sadly, Lil Kim lost an eye earlier in her life and also carries cat flu so hasn’t had the easiest start. But she loves her best friend, Hermione, and staff are keen for them to stay together in any new home.

Neither cat had much human interaction previously but are starting to come out of their shells and are becoming very friendly with staff. They are now looking for a home where they can relax and learn new experiences such as grooming and playing with toys.

The pair need to be the only cats and would like some outside space.

Friday, pictured right, was found as an injured stray and taken in by the RSPCA in March. Sadly, he is finding life in the cattery quite stressful so staff are keen to find him a new home as quickly as possible so he doesn’t spend any more Fridays without a home of his own.

The three-year-old puss is a very friendly and chatty boy. He can be a little unsure of being handled and needs an owner who will help him get used to this aspect.

He would be best in a new home as the only cat but could live with a calm dog and with primary-aged children if they understand that he needs his own space at times.

Staff would love him to go to a new home with lots of toys to play with and new places to explore.

Poor Kizzy was returned to the RSPCA in April after enjoying 10 years in her home as her owners could no longer care for her.

The 10-year-old would like a calm, quiet home where she will get lots of love and attention. She loves snuggling up on the sofa and enjoys a fuss but is nervous of being picked up or handled.

The senior puss isn’t a fan of other cats so is looking for a home where she will be the only pet. She’d also love to have a garden to explore and she loves going outside but doesn’t roam too far.

Sometimes, Kizzy likes her own space so she is looking for new owners who will understand that and will help rebuild her confidence around people.

Playful Molly loves toys and is looking for a new home where playtime never ends!

Despite her senior years, at 11-years-old Molly still enjoys lots of attention and fun.

The stray, who came into RSPCA care in March, is a beautiful puss who will need regular grooming to keep her coat in tip-top condition.

Molly, pictured above, would like to be the only pet in her new home so she can enjoy all of the fuss and attention.

Molly, Kizzy, Friday, Lil Kim and Hermione are just some of the cats at RSPCA Leybourne Animal Centre, in West Malling, who are patiently waiting for their new homes.
