Local elections will take place in May, and you only have till April 17th the register to vote!

If you are going to be away for the local elections, the deadline to apply for a postal vote is Wednesday 18 April. Download your application form on the your vote matters website. (see link below)

Not all local councils will be having a local election but a lot are, it is best to check on the yourvotematters website to check.

What are the elections for?

The local elections on Thursday 3 May are for you to choose who represents you on your local council.

Depending on where you live, your local council is responsible for all or some of the following areas:

  • Council housing
  • Education services
  • Electoral registration
  • Environmental health
  • Leisure and recreation facilities
  • Libraries
  • Local planning
  • Local transport
  • Parks and public places
  • Regulation of local business
  • Roads and footpaths
  • Social services
  • Waste and recycling

Maidstone Borough Council have been really pushing for people to vote with an active social media campaign, icluding reminding people to inform newly legal voting age teenagers to register:

“Mums, dads, family and friends! Do you know an 18 year old? Let them know that they could vote for the very first time in the Maidstone elections on May 3rd! Just register to vote by April 17th! Get tagging your teens for their milestone voting moment!”

Maidstone Borough Council Elections are being held on 03 May 2018.

On Thursday 3 May 2018, residents will have their say on how Maidstone Borough Council is run.

Maidstone Borough Council comprises 55 elected Councillors, representing 26 Wards across the Borough. On 03 May 2018 18 councillors are up for election. Councillors are elected to serve a 4 year term with elections covering one third of the seats taking place every year, except 1 in 4, when County Council elections are held.

 

Hastings and Tunbridge Wells also have their local election on May 3rd.
