Public invited to cyber security event at University of Kent

The public are invited to attend a free event at the University of Kent to learn about research being done by the Kent Interdisciplinary Research Centre in Cyber Security (KirCCS) around cyber security in light of the University being re-recognised by the government as an Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research (ACE-CSR).

The event will take place on Wednesday December 5 and starts at 13:00 with a buffet lunch and the chance to see posters of cyber security research by cyber security researchers at the University of Kent and stands of external organisations active in cyber security. It will be opened by Professor Karen Cox, the Vice-Chancellor and President of the University.

From 14:30 there will be talks from Professor Philippe De Wilde, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research and Innovation at the University, to discuss future plans for research and innovation around cyber security and other key areas, and from Professor Shujun Li, Director of the KirCCS (Kent ACE-CSR), to introduce research and wider activities of the Centre.

Professor Shujun Li’s talk will be followed by talks from three high-profile external speakers, including Dr Natasha Grayson, Head of the Cyber Policy Hub in The Home Office, Stuart Jubb, the Managing Director of the technology transfer firm Crossword Cybersecurity plc, and Dr Emiliano De Cristofaro, a world-leading researcher on privacy heading the Information Security Research Group at the University College London (UCL).

Professor Li said: ‘The event will be a great opportunity to show the cutting-edge cyber security research we have been doing at the University, on an increasingly important area of modern life. The invited external speakers from three different sectors will also give the audience their views on cyber security policies, innovation and research. We hope many people, including members of the general public, will attend.’

The event will include Q&A sessions with the speakers and end with a drinks and networking session. Registration for the event is free, but there are limited seats. It will take place in the atrium and Lecture Theatre 1 (KLT1) in Keynes College on the Canterbury campus.
