Canterbury Council proposes changes to car parking charges and regulations

The council is proposing to make a number of changes to its car parks, which would take effect from April 2019.

The changes being proposed are shown below:

Canterbury

Whitefriars car park

  • Remove the 5 hour maximum stay, extend the hourly charging period to 9pm and implement a linear charging structure

Canterbury coach park

  • Introduce a lower charge of £8 for stays up to 6 hours

Herne Bay

It is proposed to increase the charge by 10p per hour in the following car parks:

  • Beach Street
  • Market Street
  • Neptune
  • Reculver Country Park
  • Reculver Towers
  • William Street

It is proposed that the charges in Neptune car park will apply overnight, subject to a maximum charge of £6.60.

It is also proposed that holders of Herne Bay Business Users’ Permits will be allowed to park in the Memorial Park car park.

Whitstable

It is proposed to increase the charge by 10p per hour in the following car parks:

  • Beach Walk
  • Oyster
  • Whitstable Harbour

It is proposed to increase the charge applying from April to September by 10p per hour in the following car parks:

  • Gladstone Road
  • Gorrell Tank
  • Keam’s Yard
  • Middle Wall
  • Shaftesbury Road
  • Victoria Street

Permits

It is proposed that a facility to pay for permits by instalments over ten months for an additional fee of £5.
