Eco-friendly staff at Havant Borough Council are set to go green by cutting out their single-use plastics.

Council staff have signed up to the Ecobricks scheme, meaning they will be collecting their waste bags, wrappers, packets and lids to be made into reusable bricks. The aim is for staff to gradually cut down the amount of plastics they use and to work towards a greener workplace.

Ecobricks can be used as part of community projects in the borough, county and across the world. By creating these bricks, plastic waste that otherwise might pollute our oceans or end up on landfill becomes a building block ideal for benches, tables, garden spaces and walls.

Havant Borough Council has recently stopped using plastic cups in its kitchens and already works with local community group Final Straw Solent to help reduce plastic waste within the borough.

Councillor Tim Pike, Cabinet Lead for Finance and Regeneration, said: “It’s great to see Havant Borough Council staff challenging themselves to create a greener workplace. This is yet another example of local people helping to protect our environment.”
