The Old Post Office Restaurant due to open 2nd November!

An exciting brand new restaurant in Margate will finally be opening its doors to Thanet locals next Thursday (2nd November).

The Old Post Office Restaurant will be run by head chef Tristan Fitt-  a young and ambitious former sous chef to Michelin star awarded cook Alyn Williams.

8:30-23:00 acting as a deli bar in the morning and afternoon serving sandwiches, salads and refreshments to eat in or takeaway and becoming a fine dining establishment from early evening.

On Thursday 26th November Community Ad were invited to a champagne reception at the Old Post Office where we were able to get a first glimpse of the restaurant and dining area as well as the official food menu.

 

Bringing something different to Margate

As we walked in we were immediately impressed by the luxurious marble top bar, majestic grand piano, eye-catching wall features and a beautifully carved marble fireplace. The high end design and layout combined with the creative and meticulously presented cuisine is a way in which The Old Post Office will bring something different to the regeneration of Margate town.

 

 

 

 

 

As new as this restaurant is, owner John Parry revealed that he has kept hold of a few familiar work pieces that were formally used when the building was Margate’s Royal Mail post office for 104 years.

“The structure of this restaurant is all reclaimed, the original marble all came from a friend of mine who had all different bits and pieces which I bought off him. I then got marble experts in and this is what we have got out of it, it’s gives a very elegant effect. The wooden floor came from a girls school in Dulwich, it was their gym floor. My friend informed me of someone who had some flooring, I contacted them and of all the places they could have lived, they were from Ramsgate! It was as if it was meant to be! We like the history and tradition of this building, we store our wine in the same place where the post office used to store their tills and we have also maintained doors and sofas to keep in touch with some of the history from its former self”
