Date:               13.10.18

Time:               11.30am-1.30pm

Address:          Repton Connect, Repton Avenue, Ashford, TN23 3RX

Repton Connect, a brand new community centre in Repton Park, will officially open to the public this Saturday October 13.

The Mayor of Ashford, Cllr Jessamy Blanford, will officially open the centre at 11.45am, after which there will be a host of fun, family-friendly activities for attendees to enjoy, such as a photo booth, popcorn machine and refreshments – including a free hog roast.

The new facility – which is comprised of an office, two meeting rooms, a large hall and toilets – will enable people to access a variety of activities, services and opportunities including well-being groups, yoga, Pilates, toddler groups, event hire, family exercise, crafts, older people’s groups, commercial hire and support groups.

Other facilities also include a multi-use games area, car park consisting of 35 spaces (including disabled users) and land which will include a community garden, woodland area and an outdoor classroom. The outdoor areas are still in development, with completion anticipated in 2019.

Repton Connect will be managed and operated by the Repton Community Trust, a team of eight local people, including the local ward member Cllr Peter Feacey.

Of the opening, Cllr Feacey said: “Around five years ago we started meeting with local residents and Ashford Borough Council to look at what we wanted from a new community centre. We suggested lots of different ideas and met on a regular basis. I have been involved in the project from the beginning and it is a real pleasure to see the finished community centre. I look forward to seeing how Repton Connect develops.”

Chris Kimmance, Chair of the Board of Trustees, added: “I was asked to consider being part of a new trust that was being formed to oversee the running of the community centre. I was only interested if there were a way that I could see lives changing for the better. The future looks very bright for Repton Connect Community Centre as Repton Community Trust goes from strength to strength, putting the heart in Repton.”
