Recycle Week success

Last month we celebrated National Recycle Week. More and more of us are environmentally aware and are taking to Instagram and Facebook to learn and discuss how we can all do more.

In case you missed it check out all our top tips about recycling. Better yet, you can make small changes by reducing your single-use plastics. There are so many people across the UK that are going that extra mile for the cause.

Changes to recycling centre opening times

, recycling centres across Essex will change their opening times over the autumn and winter months. Please check before you visit.

Alternatively, have you considered whether your items are ‘too good to throw away’? There are so many ways to pass on your good quality items to a new home.

Make the switch to cloth nappies

Did you know that disposable nappies count as single-use plastics? Making the switch to cloth means that you’ll be doing your bit to reduce waste and help our environment.

Even if you use just one cloth nappy a day, it will save 365 disposables a year going into landfill! We offer a £30 refund on both new and pre-loved cloth nappies, so why not give it a try?

Can you afford to throw £150 away?

Last month we shared an article about how to protect the Essex countryside by not littering out of your vehicle. We quoted that it costs £17 million to clean up litter in the UK. Sadly, that figure is only for Essex!

That’s why it’s even more important to report anyone who commits this crime, which carries a fine of up to £150. Watch our video; there’s never any excuse for littering.

Mythbuster: Wrappers not recyclable at kerbside

Many of us get through a lot of sweets over Halloween. But don’t be tricked into thinking you can recycle sweet wrappers at the kerbside. Most sweet wrappers are made from a mixture of materials, which are difficult to separate and recycle. That’s why they must go into general waste.

However, TerraCycle have drop-off locations where you can take your confectionary packaging. They then go through a special recycling process and are turned into new products.
