Aspiring entrepreneurs have the opportunity to bring their business idea to life through a new business programme.

The scheme, introduced by Braintree District Council, offers a straight forward route for young entrepreneurs to set up their own business, with additional training and guidance support to make a success of their idea, and investment funding is available of up to £3000 to help get them started.

It is open to those aged 16-30 and aims to encourage young people within the Braintree District to pursue their business venture, which is now available for ambitious individuals to apply.

Those who are successful will be provided with one to one mentoring support and guidance along the way, networking opportunities, as well as free workshops with partners including BEST Growth Hub.

Councillor Tom Cunningham, Cabinet Member for Economic Development, said: “Launching a start-up business is a big challenge to take on at any age, and this initiative is a way of removing the typical barriers to start up your own business and help develop the next generation of social entrepreneurs. It will also help bridge the gap for young people not in education, employment or training and offer an alternative solution to them, as well as increase our economic impact and create more jobs. There’s nothing like this in our district so we would encourage anyone who has a great business idea to come forward and apply.”

The programme was developed as part of a wider drive to grow the Braintree district economy and help support those with a disadvantaged background or who may not have the means or experience to secure mainstream employment to grow their ventures in the district.

Applicants can apply now by submitting a 3 minute video detailing their business idea and it’s potential.  Visit for full details and how to submit an application.
