New Charter Helps Promote Great Places To Stay

A new Tourism Accommodation Charter is launched by Dover District Council today to fully promote the extensive range of great places to stay in White Cliffs Country.

The far reaching new charter asks accommodation providers in the district, including hotels, to sign up and maintain their commitment to and develop their high standards of customer service and hospitality.

In addition to the accreditation schemes of Visit England, AA Quality Assurance, Kent Accommodation Scheme and others, this charter provides a supplementary opportunity to support tourism in the district. It importantly will also allow Dover District Council and its experienced Tourism Department to actively promote those local providers that are signed up. The Council will continue to promote accommodation accredited through other recognised schemes, as it currently does.

Cllr MJ Holloway, Dover District Council’s Cabinet Member for Tourism, said: “Tourism and the visitor economy are creating substantial business and employment growth across the district. A new tourism strategy for White Cliffs Country is to be issued in the autumn, and a key element will be increasing the district’s appeal and accommodation offer by encouraging greater investment.

“Great accommodation and service support a fantastic visitor stay, which in turn supports an outstanding overall visit and return visits thereafter.

“Over the next 12 months, we will also be looking to harness the full potential of The Open Championship in Sandwich in terms of the visitor economy, and the range of quality accommodation will play a starring role. This also comes as the Government announces its first ‘tourism sector deal’ which recognises the strategically important role of tourism and accommodation to the UK economy.

“The district’s new charter helps us to support our fantastic accommodation providers and to promote them more widely. It also means that our visitors can ultimately concentrate on the amazing opportunities and experiences within White Cliffs Country, because ‘where to stay’ takes care of itself.”
