New art exhibition ‘Together Separately’ comes to Romney Marsh

A new art exhibition titled ‘Together Separately’ is coming to Romney Marsh this June, displaying work by the Goddard family.

The brand new ‘Together Seperately’ art exhibit showcases the work by local artist Phillippa Goddard, along with her family: Terry, Jessica and Emily Goddard and photographer Ian Beacham.

Influenced by life on Romney Marsh, this five-handed exhibition shows the common threads that bring us together yet separated by our uniquely individual styles. Including paintings, prints, papercuts, knitted work and photography.

Having trained in Fine Art at Southampton and Exeter Colleges of Art, Phillippa moved to Romney Marsh in 1975 eventually giving up the day job to become a proper artist.

Working in 2D media, images evolve through observation of places and things – passing through memory and imagination to be retold in a new way. Her style has been described as illustrative, like a stained glass window and even a bit scary.

First asked to design and paint a mural in 2011, she has since worked on private commissions and outside, in public, on several prestigious projects including Sunflower House and The Wooded Valley in Folkestone Association and three large murals in New Romney.

Together Separately is the latest offering from her.

The show brings together the wonderfully diverse artwork of the family, showing the different ways the unique location of Romney Marsh can inspire multitude forms of expression, as it has done for centuries, and probably will do for many years to come.
