Will you be taking part in Movember 2017? – Men’s Health Awareness Month

Did you know that the Movember craze actually began in Australia in 2003? The idea was sparked up between two friends Travis Garone and Luke Slattery sharing a beer in Melbourne.

The two friends decided to talk their mates into growing a Mo. Inspired by a friend’s mother who was fundraising for breast cancer, they decided to make the campaign about men’s health and prostate cancer. They designed the rules of Movember (which are still in place today) and agreed to charge ten dollars to grow a Mo. Trav designed the first Movember logo, and they sent around an email titled ‘Are you man enough to be my man?’ They found 30 guys willing to take up the challenge.

Fourteen years later there are now 20 countries participating in Movember with an incredible £443 million raised and 1,200 men’s health projects being funded. Movember has increased drastically from the amount of participants from 30 in 2003 to presently over 5 million.

The Movember Foundation is a global charity committed to men living happier, healthier, longer lives. Since 2003, millions have joined the men’s health movement, raising £402 million and funding over 1,000 projects focusing on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, poor mental health and physical inactivity.

The Movember Foundation believe in taking action

The Foundation believe in creating positive change for men’s health by raising awareness and educating men year-round, and through the take-over of the month formerly known as November.
