Medway thanks key workers with new road markings

Medway Council has created new road markings across Medway to thank key workers for their continued hard work.

The thank you messages have been positioned in Marlborough Road and Montgomery Road in Gillingham, near Medway Maritime Hospital, and in Dock Road in Chatham.

Leader of Medway Council, Cllr Alan Jarrett, said: “We have all been affected by the coronavirus and it is incredibly important that we recognise the tremendous efforts and hard work of all frontline workers including NHS staff, teachers, delivery drivers, supermarket staff and council officers. We hope the thank you messages, as well as the rainbows in residents’ windows will help lift keyworker’s spirits. I would like to thank VolkerHighways and their lining subcontractor for creating the messages for us and installing them at no cost to the taxpayer.”

James Devine, Chief Executive of Medway NHS Foundation Trust said: “This is a wonderful gesture from our colleagues at the council and reflects the tremendous community spirit that we have experienced since this pandemic began. I am sure that seeing these messages as they arrive at the hospital for another busy shift gives our staff such a boost.

“I would again like to thank the residents of Medway and Swale for all their support, and our community colleagues who work so closely with us to provide the care that our community deserves.”

Alistair Thompson, managing director of VolkerHighways, said: “We hope this shows our immense appreciation and helps to raise the spirits of the incredible NHS employees and carers in frontline roles. Our team are proud to show their support and thanks, while carrying out essential road maintenance projects in the local area.”
