Make history come alive at the West Sussex Record Office open day

On Saturday 23 November, West Sussex Record Office is offering visitors an all-access pass to discover more than 1,200 years of West Sussex history for free.

Open from 10am – 3.30pm, anyone interested in family, local or military history is invited to come along and meet staff, find out what sources are available, see some original documents and take a tour behind the scenes.

There will also be the opportunity to view historic film from Screen Archive South East and see conservation work in action.

Visitors can seek advice from members of the Sussex Family History Group and meet organisers of the West Sussex Archives Society.

The Record Office, based in Orchard Street, Chichester, houses original archives from 780AD to the present day, including records of local councils, churches, schools, police, courts, hospitals, businesses, societies, estates (including Goodwood, Cowdray, Parham, Standen and Wiston), Diocese of Chichester, and the Royal Sussex Regiment.
