Lots of thrills promised for fun day from Aylesham Welfare

Aylesham Welfare

Aylesham Welfare is set to be buzzing on Bank Holiday Monday (27 August 2018) when it hosts a day of fun events for the young and young at heart in aid of London’s Evelina Children’s Hospital.

Several young children living in the village have benefitted from the hospital’s care over the past few years and now their families are arranging a fundraising event for the cause.

Maria Williamson, whose 14 month old daughter Grace was admitted to Evelina last year after a number of strokes  – and has ongoing treatment  – is behind the plans for the event on at the Welfare & Leisure Centre in Spinney Lane.

Maria said: “Last year so many kind people and businesses rallied around to raise £2,500 to enable Grace to come home,  I thought it would be good to raise money for Evelina as so many more children in Aylesham have had, or are being, treated by the hospital as well.

“During the past few weeks since we started planning the event, we have been overwhelmed by people’s generosity giving prizes for the grand raffle and being willing to offer attractions or entertainment.”

Attractions on the day include fairground rides, stalls and games, hot food and barbecue, bouncy castle and inflatables, cake stand, tug o war, a photo booth, football tournament and live music with bands including Rivla, MUTO, Spyplane, Sean Carey and the Midnight Bluez Band. For mums and dads there will also be a gin bar.

Top of the grand raffle prize list is a year’s membership of the welfare gym, worth about £400. Other prizes include a £100 voucher given by Slater’s Menswear and three course restaurant meals for four people.
