Braintree District Council is on the search for local voluntary, community, social enterprise organisations or individuals to apply for funding to improve residents’ health and wellbeing.

The aim of the funding is to target worthwhile projects / initiatives which aim to tackle the public health priorities set by the Braintree District Health & Wellbeing Panel.

The priorities are:

  • Tackling obesity
  • Increasing activity
  • Addressing Frailty (Agewell)
  • Improving Mental Health services

The grants are for up to a maximum of £1000.

Past recipients of a grant have been Community 360, who provided a Slipper Exchange which provides free anti-slip slippers for older people with balance and mobility problems. Another project which received funding, was free exercise classes for the elderly and cancer recovery patients run by two local voluntary personal trainers.

Councillor Peter Tattersley, Cabinet Member for Health and Communities, said:

“This is a great opportunity to fund schemes within the district who are making positive changes in the community and helping contribute to healthier lives physically and mentally to Braintree’s residents. We have had some fantastic beneficiaries in the past and I look forward to seeing what applicants come forward this year.”

Applications need to be received before March 2020 and will be considered by the Health and Wellbeing Panel.
