Lewes District Council: Local plan takes major step forward

Lewes District Council has taken a major step towards finalising plans that will guide development in the district for the next ten years.

Every local authority in the UK is required to have what is known as an adopted local plan. It sets out local planning policies and identifies how land is used, determining what will be built where.

Lewes District Council’s local plan details where sites for employment, housing and other infrastructure will be located in the district up to 2030.

Recently, the government’s planning inspector examined part two of the local plan and has proposed some main modifications to it agreed through the hearings.

Councillor Tom Jones, Cabinet Member for Planning, said:

“This is really excellent news and huge credit is owed to our planning officers for their expertise in delivering this critically important document.

“The inspector has proposed some modifications that we fully support.  We will now consult on the changes during July and August and I encourage local people to contribute to that process.”
The inspector will publish the final report later this year, with adoption by Full Council to follow soon after.
