Local apprentices celebrate success in virtual ceremony

Two apprentices working for Dover District Council have a reason to celebrate this month. They have both achieved their apprenticeship qualification and attended The Kent and Medway Apprentice Graduation Ceremony 2020 online to receive their qualifications virtually.

Running for its second year, this special event marked the incredible achievement of the county’s apprentices during 2019-20.

It was originally intended to hold the ceremony at Rochester Cathedral to celebrate the apprentice graduates with their friends, parents and employers, as well as with VIP guests including dignitaries, key business organisations and education and training provider leaders.

However, because of Covid-19 restrictions, the event was moved online to celebrate apprentices’ achievements and acknowledge the support of their employers during such a challenging year.

Chloe Knight (19), an ‘Inspire’ Apprentice working in the Council’s Community Development team, achieved Level 3 in Business and Administration this year, having completed her Level 2 last year.

Chloe said: “I am grateful for the opportunity to work as part of the Community Development team. I have learnt a range of new skills during the two years of my apprenticeship and have had the chance to attend several training courses which has built my confidence and developed my skills further. I am excited to continue my work within a new role as a Community Development Support Officer”.

Blake Manton (19), Technical Support Modern Assistant at Dover District Council working in the Council’s Assets and Building Control team, achieved Level 2 in Business and Administration.

Blake said: “I have developed many new skills within the workplace and improved on the skills I already had. I have also enjoyed working with colleagues in the Assets and Building Control team as they have been very helpful and taught me a lot during my apprenticeship. I am pleased to have been awarded the Technical Support Assistant role within the Department and I’m looking forward to learning more as I progress in the job”.

Other apprentices working for local organisations including Megger, Dover Port, Viking Recruitment and Buckland Hospital also received their qualifications at the virtual ceremony.

Cllr MJ Holloway, Deputy Leader of DDC, said: “I am really impressed with the calibre of apprentices we have working with us at Dover District Council. They have made a valid contribution to the services we provide across the district, especially so in these unprecedented times, and are very much valued within the organisation. I would also like to congratulate all other apprentices who have worked so hard for their qualifications in the local district.”
