Iconic Britpop band The Lightning Seeds have been announced as the headline act for this summer’s free Create Music Festival, in Ashford’s Victoria Park.

Famous for a string of hits including Pure, Sense, Life of Riley, and Lucky You, The Lightning Seeds are now probably best known for their football anthem ‘Three Lions’ – which has become a No.1 hit single on three separate occasions, including during last year’s World Cup.

The Lightning Seeds are no strangers to wowing the crowds on the big stage, with worldwide arena tours and performances at some of the UK’s biggest festivals, including a stint on Glastonbury’s legendary Pyramid Stage in 2010. In 2014, the songs and career of frontman Ian Broudie were celebrated in a concert held at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, featuring the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

Ian Broudie is acknowledged as a man of many talents. Originally emerging from the post punk Liverpool music scene of the late seventies playing in the band ‘Big in Japan’, he’s gone on to become one of the UK music industry’s most respected and influential songwriters and producers.

His eye for developing new talent is widely recognised, and he has helped establish several mainstream UK bands including Echo & the Bunnymen, The Zutons and The Coral – as well as working with other well-known artists including Terry Hall, frontman of The Specials, who will also be performing a DJ set in Ashford this year as part of Create Platform.

Create Festival organiser Chris Dixon said: “Broudie’s passion for music and dedication to growing the talents of other musicians reflects the true ethos of Create, which is all about supporting new local talent and providing a platform for them to develop”.

“With a ton of hits under their belt, we know The Lightning Seeds will draw a big crowd of all ages, as well as attract more local acts to apply to play”.

Create Festival takes place in Victoria Park on Saturday 20th July, and is already one of the South East’s biggest and long established free music festivals. This year marks the 24th year of the festival, which has grown significantly in the last five years. Last year’s was the biggest to date, drawing over 12,000 locals in with headline act DJ Jazzy Jeff.
