Launch of new book RE/PRESENT a hit in Cliftonville

Last night (10th May) saw the launch of a new book RE/PRESENT and an exhibition of work at the Radio Margate café and community space.

RE/PRESENT contains a collection of photographs of Margate and the surrounding areas from the Ba photography students of Canterbury Christ Church University.

50% of the proceeds generated from the publication will go to Cliftonville’s Garden Gate Project, a community garden focused on the well-being and cohesion of the local community. The other 50% will be used to fund the students third year degree show, held in Canterbury and London.

There was a good turnout for the launch, once more showing the burgeoning art scene in the most exciting corner of Margate.

Along with the book, people also got a map of Cliftonville by local artist Stephen Foy-Philp, who was a finalist in the Platform graduate award 2017, an award that showcases the very best of young and emerging visual artists in the South East region.

Stephen was on hand to speak to us:

‘I thought it was as great way to finish their second year, with the money raised going to a great cause. It is a good opportunity for people that aren’t from the area to see some of the photography that is using Margate and its surroundings as its focus. It has been a pleasure to be a part of.’

The event certainly gathered some eager fans on Instagram, with Radio Margate saying:

“How nice to spot the radio station woven into Stephens new illustrative map of Cliftonville, right where you’ll always find us – floating in the golden triangle that exists between Cliftonville Lido, the wizardry of Haeckels madeofmargate and the beach.”
