Knockhall Primary School Celebrates with Singing and Kindness

Knockhall Primary School in Greenhithe is celebrating the success of some exciting school initiatives that happened in the run up to Christmas last term.

Every Monday afternoon, a group of enthusiastic pupils from the school gather to practice their singing skills with choir coordinator and Year 2 teacher Miss Finch. A video of the talented choir performing One Night One Moment from Nativity! proved hugely popular on social media and has caught the attention of family and neighbours ahead of the choir’s upcoming concerts.

The group prepared four festive concerts over the Christmas period, including a performance at Bluewater Waterstones and other appearances at Blossoms Care Home, Asda Greenhithe and at the school itself.

Knockhall pupils were also busy supporting the launch of a new anti-bullying campaign. Children from the school took part in the ITV show This Morning’s launch at the Smiggle store in Bluewater, Greenhithe, for the kick-off of BeKind, a national initiative for all young people who may be affected by bullying.

The school supported the launch of BeKind keyrings, which carry a special message reminding young people to be kind and supportive of one another and to Speak Out, Stand Up, and #BeKind whenever they themselves or anyone else is affected by bullying. The children were all thrilled to each receive a keyring as part of the launch programme.

The campaign also featured Knockhall’s very own Nurture Practitioner, Becky Nicholson, who works with pupils with social and emotional mental health needs to ensure they go to school happy and feeling safe as they learn.

Asked why it is important to be kind, pupil Louis said: “Because it’s not very nice if you bully people, because then they’ll be upset… and then they’ll think, ‘every day, when I go to school I’ll be bullied’.” Pupils at Knockhall are instead spreading the message to remember every day to be a little bit kinder to each other.

Knockhall Primary School is part of Woodland Academy Trust, which focuses on putting children and community at the heart of everything they do.

Ms. Tiwana, Head of School at Knockhall Primary School, said:

“We are delighted to see pupils taking part in a raft of fantastic initiatives across our school. Our school choir has motivated pupils to try something new, and their Christmas performances proved hugely popular.

“We were also thrilled to support the launch of BeKind. This campaign is so important in ensuring children know how to speak out and that if they do, we are here to work as a team to tackle bullying together. We look forward to seeing the success of these projects and developing similar initiatives in the coming months.”

Mr Dan Morrow, Chief Executive of Woodland Academy Trust, said:

“It is so lovely to see the joy Knockhall’s children’s choir is bringing to the community, and we are so proud that Knockhall featured on This Morning for BeKind. At Woodland we put children and community at the heart of everything we do, and I can’t think of a better way to do that than by spreading kindness and smiles all around.”
