Kids for a Quid at the Spa Valley Railway in December and January

Affordable fun for the whole family after Christmas with a Kids for a Quid promotion on the Spa Valley Railway in Tunbridge Wells on 30 & 31 December and 1 January 2020.

The Spa Valley Railway is conveniently situated in Tunbridge Wells and is the ideal destination to combine a train ride with a walk round the historic spa town.

Discover children’s favourite Wellington Rocks on the Tunbridge Wells Common or visit the nearby Pantiles with its many independent shops and cafes which line this famous landmark.   Lord North discovered the Chalybeate Spring in 1606 making the pantiles popular.  It also became a favourite of visiting royalty after the visit in 1629 of Queen Henrietta Maria, wife of King Charles 1, who stayed in the Wells for six weeks.  In 1909 King Edward VII officially recognised the popularity of the town with its many royal visitors, which included his mother, Queen Victoria, and granted the town its “Royal” prefix.

Visitors can reach Tunbridge Wells via the mainline station in the centre of Tunbridge Wells or choose to start their journey at the other end of the line at Eridge.  Trains also come into Eridge from London and arriving passengers can cross the platform to pick up services run by the Spa Valley Railway from here to Tunbridge Wells.   Choose to explore the area and walk through the woodland footpaths to nearby Harrisons Rocks.

Groombridge is the railway’s principle intermediate station, alight here to see the restored Old Station Building.  Known as one of the sunniest spots on the railway, and also the crossing point for trains, you can enjoy a snack or drink at the station while remembering a bygone era.  As well as the playpark in Groombridge perhaps consider a visit to Groombridge Place – we would however suggest visiting the attraction’s website before deciding to visit to confirm opening dates and times.

High Rocks is the smallest and most picturesque station on our line, built from scratch and opened in 1998 following the closure of the original halt in the 1950s.

High Rocks Halt is actually set in the gardens of the High Rocks Inn. This is an ideal place to sit and watch the trains go by whilst enjoying a drink in the landscaped gardens. A very unique station in a beautiful location with a backdrop to the High Rocks themselves which date back millions of years.
