Keep a friend safe with gas safety monitor giveaway

Christmas Switch-On's to warm the heart thanks to Swale Heating

A Kent heating firm is giving away free carbon monoxide monitors that could help its customers save their lives and the lives of family or friends in a campaign to encourage householders to be more aware of gas safety.

Swale Heating is one of the largest independently-owned boiler installation firms in the south east and a major participant in Gas Safety Week. Last year the firm gave away more than 150 carbon monoxide monitors and plans to more than double that figure during this year’s event, by giving customers two each so they can pass one on to a friend or relative.

Sales Director Matthew Edwards said: “We’re determined to spread the message that having a CO monitor in every home can save lives. Carbon monoxide is a killer. You can’t smell it, taste it or see it and around 40 people every year die as a result.

“So if you buy a boiler from Swale Heating during Gas Safety Week in September, we’ll give you two free CO monitors. When you’ve got yours safely in position, why not gift the other to a friend or relative who hasn’t got one? It might just save their life.”

According to NHS figures, an average of four people every day have to go to A&E with suspected CO poisoning yet gas industry statistics show that only half the homes in the UK have a CO monitor fitted.

Gas Safety Week is a nationwide campaign run each year by Gas Safe Register (www.gassaferegister.co.uk) to promote gas safety and runs from 18 – 24 September.
