KCC encourages volunteering opportunities in libraries

Kent libraries is encouraging people to volunteer at one of the county’s 99 libraries.

At a committee meeting last week, members heard that last year 1,119 volunteers gave over 45,000 hours of their time adding value to the Kent libraries and archives.

Head of Service Libraries, Registration & Archives James Pearson, said: “We are extremely grateful to the volunteers for the time they give us.

“They play a crucial role in supporting and delivering a variety of library services, they add extra value to our service alongside our paid staff without whom the delivery of all our service would be impossible.

“Volunteers can help out in various ways at Kent’s libraries, such as delivering our home library service, assisting at our events and activities, and helping people with their IT skills.

“Volunteers for Digital Dens, for example, is a new successful and innovative service.”

Digital Dens offer children aged 8-11 free sessions to develop new digital skills and get creative with workshops using the latest educational technology. They are taught how to code, programme and even build computers and robots.

People can sign up to be a volunteer online or request further information by enquiring at a local library, sending an email to [email protected] or call 03000 41 69 96.
