Inspirational teacher smashes her way through her 100th marathon in six years

Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys must be extremely proud of one of their biology teachers, Karen Bennet.

Karen ran her first marathon over six years ago at the age of 40 and hated every minute of it; however, she has now taken part in and completed over 100 marathons in just six years.

It all started as an item on a bucket list; ‘run a marathon’ and that’s exactly what Karen did. She completed the Brighton marathon in 2013 but said to herself “marathons aren’t for me”.

But in the face of adversity the strong will prevail and Karen pursued and “fell in with some brilliant, supportive runners” meaning she only improved and improved.

Karen, 46, went from competing in one marathon a year to twenty, and in 2019 she ran an impressive 30 different marathons, completing her 100th marathon at Samphire Hoe County Park near Dover on 15th December.

Just to put that into perspective, Karen has run over an unbelievable 2,620 miles competing in marathons in the last six years.

Karen set an initial target of 25 marathons, and then 50 marathons before the age of 50, and passing 100 at the age of 46 is no small feat.
