Hitting the Cold Spots could help this Fuel Poverty Awareness Day

Now in its eighth year, Hampshire County Council’s Hitting the Cold Spots initiative offers advice and support to people who are having trouble staying warm during the winter.

Today provides an opportunity to raise awareness about fuel poverty which affects an estimated 45,000 households in Hampshire.

Hampshire County Council’s Hitting the Cold Spots (HTCS) initiative can help. Now in its eighth year, this county-wide project offers advice and support to people who are having trouble staying warm during the winter, including home visits, help to access funding for heating repairs and replacements and temporary heating.

Councillor Patricia Stallard, Hampshire County Council’s Executive Member for Public Health, said:

There are many households across the county who struggle to keep warm and well due to low incomes, high energy costs and less energy efficient homes. Those most at risk include the very young, older people and those with chronic health conditions. As it can sometimes be difficult to know where to go for advice and support, the HTCS scheme is a great place to start, providing a one stop shop for anyone worried about keeping warm during the winter months

In addition to the practical help available, Hampshire residents can also receive advice about tariff switching and referrals to other services for further help, including ‘safe and well’ visits and healthy living advice.

Some of the services have eligibility criteria, but the phone advice line is open to all Hampshire residents. The advisors will be able to talk through the best possible solutions for each caller.
