Too good to throw away?

Did you know, there’s often no need to throw items away? You can give or donate your stuff to other people in your local community instead.

This year we are encouraging people to consider other options to pass on their stuff. It’s quick, easy and free to do and you may not even need to leave home.

Healthy new recipes

This time of year, many people are health conscious and money conscious. That’s why we’ve found an assortment of healthy recipes that use up any leftovers you may have around.

Pledge to win a water butt

Last month, 50 Essex residents received a water butt each for pledging to empty their water butt before heavy rainfall. And this month another lucky 50 will win one each.

To be in with a chance to win all you need to do is pledge today.

Reusing furniture supports volunteers

Sheila, a volunteer says, “I had never worked with the public before and it gave me confidence.”

Barry, another volunteer says volunteering keeps his “mind active.”

While Wendy says, “Every day is different, and I go away most days feeling I have really made someone’s life a lot better”.

These are just some of the people that make a big difference in Brentwood, through the Lighthouse Furniture Project, an organisation that provides quality second-hand furniture, white goods and other household items at affordable prices.

Don’t miss out on Essex crowdfunding

People across Essex have been using the Essex crowdfunding platform to raise money for local community projects. If you have an idea for a project that would help reduce household waste, our fund could give you up to £1,000.

With only 2 months left, get your idea off the ground with our community reuse fund. Check funding information on the #EssexCrowd or email us for more details.

Mythbuster: Can rubble be reused?

When people get major work done around the garden, rubble and hardcore can start accumulating. Most people think this material can only be taken to certain recycling centres. But have you ever tried posting it onyour local Freegle group? Your old rubble can help others finish a variety of garden landscape projects.
