Have a Field Day at one of the Braintree District parks

Go along and celebrate Braintree’s parks and open spaces this ‘Have a Field Day’ on Saturday 7th July.

Have a Field Day is a national celebration of parks and green spaces initiated by Fields in Trust. This year the event will take place on Saturday 7th July when thousands of people across the UK will come together at their parks and green spaces to celebrate why they are so special to their local communities.

There are an abundance of beautiful open spaces in the Braintree district with some of the Council’s own parks being a perfect haven for calm, play and physical activity.

Braintree District Council continues to build on the success of its two national awards issued by Fields in Trust; Partner of the Year for 2016 and Marshalls Park was selected as Showcase Centenary Field for 2016.

Cabinet Member for Environment and Place, Councillor Wendy Schmitt said:

“We were delighted to be rewarded for the efforts and achievements of our staff and volunteers in making our parks and green spaces the best they can be. We are supporting ‘Have a Field Day’ because we want our residents to come together and enjoy the glorious open spaces and parks available. From a slow meander through Bocking Blackwater Nature Reserve with its numerous paths and cycle ways as well as wonderful wildlife, to skateboarding in Weavers Park, a play in the park at Brambles Road park in Witham to a nature walk at Hoppit Mead and John Ray Park.  There is something for everyone.”

Cabinet Member for Health & Communities, Councillor Peter Tattersley said:

“We would like to invite everyone to come out and enjoy a picnic in the park on Saturday 7th July.  We have provided some tasty picnic ideas on www.livewellcampaign.co.uk. Some of our open spaces are also perfect environments for physical activity.  You can find out about some excellent initiatives such as cycling groups and walking groups on the Livewell website.  Not only do these activities provide a perfect opportunity for getting fit, they are also excellent ways to meet new, like-minded friends. Please share some of your photos and videos of you enjoying our parks and open spaces on our social media pages; @livewelllocal on Twitter, @livewellcampaign on Instagram and Livewell on Facebook.
