Havant heroes celebrated at volunteer awards

The volunteers of Havant have been rewarded for their hard work and dedication at the borough’s volunteer awards.

Organised by Community First and Havant Borough Council, shortlisted volunteers from across the borough were invited to the awards held on Tuesday 4 June at the Plaza.

During the event, six awards were presented to local heroes who had shown dedication to their role and made a real difference to the lives of residents. Attendees enjoyed a performance by Ellie May from the award-winning charity Urban Vocal Group and Debbie Lyall from Right to Work gave an important talk about the real contribution volunteers can make in the community.

The 1^st place winners of each award are as follows:

• Young Volunteer of the Year – Victoria Edwards, Making Space
• Small Team of the Year – St John Ambulance Community Bathing Service
• Large Team of the Year – Positive Pathways Project
• Unsung Hero – Beverley Stotesbury, Havant St John Ambulance Cadets
• Mayor’s Special Commendation – Michael Kennett, The Right to Work
• Lifetime Achievement – Walter Taylor, Hayling Island Community Centre

As well as receiving their trophy, the individual award winners – Victoria Edwards, Beverley Stotesbury, Michael Kennett and Walter Taylor – also won a two-night bed and breakfast stay in a hotel of their choice courtesy of Room to Reward.

Councillor Tim Pike, Cabinet Lead for Planning, Regeneration and Communities, said: “The Havant Volunteer Awards has once again highlighted the important work of the borough’s passionate and dedicated volunteers.

“I would like to congratulate the deserving winners. Their hard work has made a big difference to the lives of residents and I hope they continue to inspire others to do so.”
