Hampshire Library Service Update

coronavirus

Read all about it!  Here we have the latest from your Hampshire Library Service including a new podcast, BorrowBox and the Summer Reading Challenge.

Love Your Library: the Hampshire Libraries podcast

Did you know you can now listen and subscribe to the Hampshire Libraries podcast, Love Your Library? Each month, we sit down with a bestselling author to chat about books. Meet the people behind the bookcases as our library staff inspire you to find your next read.

Ann Cleeves and Joanna Trollope feature as our first two author interviews with book reviews from Chandlers Ford and Fareham Libraries. Find us on iTunes, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts.

BorrowBox – the perfect travelling companion this summer

If you’re packing for your summer holiday, don’t forget you can download eBooks and audiobooks for FREE from BorrowBox. There are more than a thousand children’s audiobooks to listen to on long journeys, and a whopping five thousand crime and thriller eBooks in our collection.

The Summer Reading Challenge lifts off

Take a child’s reading to new heights and embark on a space adventure this summer with Space Chase, this year’s Summer Reading Challenge. Join the Rocket family on a thrilling mission to track down books nabbed by mischievous aliens. Children that read six books will receive a certificate and a medal, as well as FREE entry into our competition to win a Kindle Fire Kids Edition tablet.

Booker longlist announced

The 13 novels making up this year’s Booker longlist were announced last week, with Margaret Atwood’s sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale, The Testaments, one of the favourites to win, despite not being published until September.

Other familiar names on the shortlist include Salman Rushdie (Quichotte), Jeanette Winterson (Frankissstein), Kevin Barry (Night Boat to Tangier), Deborah Levy (The Man Who Saw Everything), Bernadine Evirasto (Girl, Woman, Other) and Ovinkan Braithwaite (My Sister, the Serial Killer) which was shortlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction this year.
