Half Term fun at Brogdale Farm 2020 Events

Brogdale Collections has a full season of events planned for 2020. Our unique and fruit filled events are hosted as ever to support education about the National Fruit Collections, as well as continuing to provide public access.

Beastie Day – 21st February

A full day of exploring Brogdale and discovering fantastic bugs & mini beasts. Book your Live Bug Show time and spend the whole day exploring the orchards, discovering bugs and have lots of fun.

Meet an impressive collection of Mega Bugs, including Hissing Cockroaches, Millipedes, Scorpions, Stick Insects, Beetle Larvae, Snails and Tarantulas!

Meet the Raptors – in door fun for rainy days – 19th & 20th February

Joe and his team will be flying a mixture of Hawks, Buzzards, Owls and you will see a glorious Falcon stoop past you at high speed!  We will give an insight into their natural world, showing you how they hunt, catch prey, survive and demonstrate different flying techniques they use.  This time will also include a chance to meet the birds up close and personal, a perfect opportunity to get a picture of one on your arm!

Orchard Craft Days – 18th February

Come along and spend some time visiting our orchards and then discover our den area where you can have a go at making your own stick people or creatures and then create your own home for them to live in.

Take up our challenge of making your home weatherproof to protect your creatures from the worst of our winter weather. Will your creature stay dry and warm when the winter storm comes?

The National Fruit Collection at Brogdale preserves a collective range of both fruiting and ornamental apples, pears, plums, apricots, cherries and more. The vast variety of different flowering trees offers an exceptional and unique show of blossom not to be missed out on.

Easter at Brogdale – 10th, 11th & 12th April

Hop along to Easter at Brogdale for a weekend of family fun. Meet the baby animals in the barn, say hello to the live hatching chicks and take a tractor ride to explore the orchards on the Easter egg trail. Get creative with the kids crafts, take a ride on the magical miniature railway through the blossoming orchards or join in our crazy egg and spoon race.    

Hanami Festival – 18th & 19th April

During April Brogdale will also celebrate Hanami – the Japanese festival of blossom with a packed Hanami festival. Immerse yourself in the fascinating and beautiful Japanese culture, and with the largest collection of fruit trees in the world, Brogdale blossom really is a sight to see! 

Hanami is the Japanese festival dedicated to cherry blossom (sakura) and is celebrated across Japan every year. Brogdale is one of the only places in the UK to celebrate Hanami. Enjoy the Japanese exhibition, Japanese performances & cultural demonstrations plus Japanese food tastings before relaxing with a picnic under the most beautiful blossoming trees in the orchards!

New – Outdoor Cooking Fun!

A full day of exploring Brogdale and discovering new skills. Book your Wild Classroom cooking session for some delicious, healthy, hearty, seasonal fun and spend some time exploring the orchards, learning new skills and having an enjoyable day with us.

In this hands on 2 hour outdoor cooking session you will learn how to make a hearty seasonal broth, a delicious vegetable bubble and squeak and fantastic flatbreads.
