Green Flag Awards success for Folkestone & Hythe green spaces

Three parks in Folkestone and Hythe District have been recognised as the very best in the world by the Green Flag Award Scheme.

The Royal Military Canal in Hythe and Folkestone’s Radnor Park and the Lower Leas Coastal Park have once again been awarded this prestigious accolade.

This is the 10th Green Flag award for the Royal Military Canal and the 13^th for Lower Leas Coastal Park. Radnor Park which picked up the award for the first time last year, receives the award for the second time.

Leader of Folkestone and Hythe District Council, Cllr David Monk said the Green Flags were well-deserved accolades for some of Folkestone’s favourite open spaces.

“It’s fantastic news that three parks have once again received Green Flag awards. Our district has so much to offer and our parks and open spaces are much loved by both residents and visitors.

“A lot of dedication and care goes into maintaining these parks and it’s great that they have been recognised for the excellent experience they provide.”

International Green Flag Award scheme manager Paul Todd said: “It’s fantastic that we have more Green Flag Awards in the UK than ever before, joined this year by 131 International winners.”

“Each flag honours the thousands of staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to maintain the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award. We congratulate each and every winner on their fantastic achievement.”

Our parks join 171 other green spaces awarded recognition in the South East of England.

The parks in Folkestone & Hythe are among a record-breaking 1,970 UK parks and green spaces and 131 in thirteen other countries around the world that will today receive a prestigious Green Flag Award – the mark of a quality park or green space.

This international award, now into its third decade, is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.
