Havant Borough Council’s Get Up and Go! programme offers residents aged 55 and above the chance to have fun, socialise and experience something new.

Activities include rowing, guided walks and pilates – with new events coming this year. All of these will be at a pace that suits you and can be attended on your own or with friends and family.

Why not plan your year ahead with these upcoming events.

‘Bat and Chat’ dementia friendly cricket – Havant Leisure Centre

This is an opportunity for all to come along and enjoy a light-hearted, fun game of cricket. These sessions run weekly on Wednesdays between 2-3pm. Entry is £2 per person.

Ballroom and Latin American dance lessons – Spring Arts and Heritage Centre

Get your dancing shoes on with the 10-week Ballroom and Latin American dance essentials class. Led by professional dance teachers, classes are £7 per session and begin on Tuesday 21 January.

Nordic Walking – Havant and Hayling Island

Learn the 4-gear technique to Nordic Walking whilst improving your overall health. All equipment will be provided for you on this six-week course, beginning on Sunday 2 February. The first taster session is free, then just £3 thereafter.

Get Up and Go! Bootcamp – Leigh Park Baptist Church

Get up and Go have partnered up with Innovation Fitness to bring an upbeat, inclusive and at your own pace, bootcamp. It starts for the first time on Monday 3 February and continues weekly. Your first session is free and just £5 thereafter.

Progression 5km guided walk – Staunton Country Park

Beginning on Monday 23 March, we will be starting a new 5k development walk which will take in the lovely views of Staunton Country Park and the Forest of Bere. Relax after the walk with a hot drink and a chat with new friends you’ve made on the walk. Meeting outside the farm entrance at 10am, the walks will take place on a fortnightly basis.

Hidden Havant History Walk – The Spring Arts and Herritage Centre

Embark on a 1-2 hour walk with a local historian and discover the hidden history that hides within Havant. Join a friendly and relaxed stroll of the town, make new friends and enjoy a hot drink afterwards. The walks will take place on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month, beginning on Tuesday 31 March.

Coastal rowing open day – Langstone Adventure Rowing, Northney Marina

Come along and try your hand at rowing. An open day is being held on Saturday 24 April 10am-4pm to give you the chance to see if you’d like to embark on a six-week course, learning everything about coastal rowing.
