Get connected to the Men’s Activity Network in Men’s Health Week

Hampshire County Council is calling out to anyone running a community activity group for men, or who is thinking of setting one up, to join Hampshire’s new Men’s Activity Network.  The Network has been set up to support men to get better connected for physical and mental wellbeing.

Councillor Judith Grajewski, Executive Member for Public Health, said, “Men’s Health Week is a great opportunity to start conversations around health and wellbeing. Men who meet regularly, either socially or through sports and hobbies, can make a positive difference to each other’s physical and mental wellbeing. The Network will work with new and existing men’s groups in Hampshire to connect them to a wider network and provide them with resources to support good physical and mental fitness.”

Evidence shows that health services and preventative health checks are underused by men, making them more likely to experience health and mental health issues.

The Men’s Activity Network aims to make it easier and more acceptable for men to talk about and prioritise their own wellbeing. It will offer advice and information on starting or running a group, employment and skills workshops, potential access to funding to support the group’s activities, resources to help attract new members, plus the chance to share projects with other local groups.

The network is open to community organisations, sports clubs, woodworking, gardening or other informal groups where men meet regularly. You can find out more and join up online. Men’s Health Week runs from 10 to 16 June.
