Garden Waste collection countdown nears deadline

Any residents who want to continue to take advantage of garden waste collections must visit the Eastbourne Borough Council website as soon as possible.

The deadline for renewals is Thursday 28 February at 5pm.

Anyone renewing after this date may face a delay in the arrival of their new permit, which could result in an interruption to their service.

Councillor Jonathan Dow, Cabinet Member for Place Services, said:

“The service has proved very popular with increasing numbers of local people signing up.

“When you renew we will send you a new permit that must be stuck to your garden waste bin.

“The sticker only has the address on it, no personal details, and needs to be clearly visible to be sure that the collection teams will see it and empty the bin.”

Like most local authorities, the annual charge of £52 per bin was introduced following severe cuts in government funding.

Councillor Dow added:

“The introduction of the charge was an inevitable consequence of the government funding cuts.

“We have to protect frontline services first and foremost and by levying a modest charge we can do this while also maintaining garden waste collections.”
