Community groups in the area looking for funding are invited to apply for grants from the Dover District Council Community Grants Scheme 2019-20 – the scheme opens today and the closing date for applications is 19 August 2019.

DDC is offering grant funding to community groups that can show benefit to the local area, and they are invited to apply for individual grants from £100 up to £1,000.  At its meeting on 1 July, Cabinet agreed total funding of £25,000 for the scheme, which includes £22.5k from Council budgets, and £2.5k from the Dover District Lotto.

Following the successful launch of the Dover District Lotto this year, £2,500 has already been generated by the Lotto, in just three months, to support the Community Grants Scheme. For every pound spent on the Dover District Lotto, 60p goes back into the local community.

Successful applicants will be notified mid-September and invited to an awards evening on 25 September.  The scheme continues to build on previous successes, with a bumper year for applications last year.

Cllr MJ Holloway, DDC Cabinet Member for Community, said: “This money goes to the heart of the community and has high impact in the areas that the community wants. Last year saw the highest number of bids we’ve had since launching the scheme, which demonstrates its success and the impact it has across the district, and many of the bids were of outstanding quality.

“It’s great to see the Lotto adding extra benefit to the grant scheme, and bringing extra funding to communities. We hope as many groups as possible apply for the grants, and we look forward to seeing the scheme continuing to make a difference in our communities. We are very happy to talk to community groups about how the scheme works and how effective it has been with other groups in the past.”

Community groups and charities can apply for community grants online on the DDC website – for more information, please see the community grants pages or for more details, please call 01304 872277 or email [email protected]
