Free Dog Microchips Available to Sevenoaks District Residents

Sevenoaks District Council and Dogs Trust are teaming up to offer free dog microchipping, free poo bags, general dog health and wellbeing advice.

In 2016, it became a legal requirement for all dogs in England, Scotland and Wales to be microchipped by the time they are eight weeks old. The chip contains the owner’s contact details so that if a dog goes missing or is stolen, it can be returned to its owner quickly and safely. Owners risk a fine up to £500 if their dog is not microchipped.

The event is taking place on Friday 29 March 2019 at ASDA Swanley, London Road, from 10am to 1pm, look out for the Sevenoaks District Council gazebo in the ASDA car park. There’s no need to book but dogs must be on a safe collar/harness and lead.

Sevenoaks District Council’s Cabinet Member for Direct & Trading Services, Cllr Matthew Dickins, says, “Microchipping is such an important part of being a responsible dog owner, helping to reunite pets should they go missing. In fact the Council recently returned a Lurcher found over 250 miles from home, thanks to its microchip. Like having a collar and tag with contact details, microchips are a legal requirement but, unlike a collar and tag, microchips can’t fall off or be removed. So we’re pleased to be working with Dogs Trust in Swanley to offer free microchipping and impartial advice for our residents’ dogs and their owners.”
