Folkestone & Hythe District Council (F&HDC) has been awarded a Silver Award by the Ministry of Defence in recognition of its support for the armed forces community.

The Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) acknowledges companies who employ and support those who serve veterans and their families.

The council earned the Silver Award due to the many forces-friendly measures it has in place, including a reserves forces training and mobilisation policy.

Cabinet Member for Communities and Deputy Leader Cllr Jenny Hollingsbee – who is also the council’s armed forces champion – said: “It is a great honour for Folkestone & Hythe District Council to receive this award.

“We are extremely proud of our long-standing connection with the armed forces, and it is only right we support those within our community and workforce who make huge sacrifices for us all.”

F&HDC signed an Armed Forces Covenant in 2011 to celebrate and extend the district’s long tradition of cooperation between its civilian community and military personnel.

We were also presented with an ERS Bronze Award last year.

Defence Secretary Ben Wallace added: “These awards recognise the outstanding support for our armed forces from employers across Britain and I would like to thank and congratulate each and every one.

“Regardless of size, location or sector, employing ex-forces personnel is good for business and this year we have doubled the number of awards in recognition of the fantastic support they give.”
